- Black History fact of the day: Madam C.J. Walker was the first Black female millionaire. She invented a line of best-selling African American hair products. Born on the plantation where her parents had been enslaved during the Civil War, she lost her parents at 7 and moved to Mississippi hoping to build a better life. After marrying, she developed hair loss and created a successful homemade treatment. Walker went on to build a beauty empire, known for saying “I got my start by giving myself a start”.
