Seniors - Jostens will be on campus this Friday during lunch to take cap and gown orders.   This is the last time they will be on campus and prices will go up after February 15th.  Cap and gowns are $16.63 plus tax.

Do you and your sibling want to be in the yearbook? Come find someone with a camera by the gym AFTER SCHOOL Wednesday, February 16th to have your sibling photo taken. They will be there for 30 minutes waiting for you, so get there quickly with your sibling!

Although some people consider it just a "trend", Did you know that Cornrows were used to help Black people escape slavery?

Enslaved African Americans used cornrows to transfer information and create maps to the north.

Since they were not allowed to read or write they had to pass information through cornrows.

It is believed to have originated in Colombia, South America where Benkos Bioho came up with the idea to have women create maps & deliver messages through their cornrows. They were also called “canerows” to represent the sugarcane fields in which they were forced to work.

Also, in their braids they kept gold and hid seeds which helped them survive after they escaped. They would use the seeds to plant crops once they were liberated.

Club News

Good morning, Scots!  It’s time for AVID’s College of the Week.  This week our school is Chico State University.

Fact 1- Chico State is the second oldest CSU campus founded in 1887 following San José State university.

Fact 2- The average class size at Chico state is about 25-35 students which is really similar to a high school classroom.

Fact 3- The Mechoopda Maidu Indians were the first inhabitants and on every first day of school a native from the tribe will welcome and speak to the incoming freshman.

Congratulations to Melina Aguilar, Roxanne Moreno, Natalie Castro and Ariana Serrano for being accepted into Chico State. We hope to continue seeing the determination.

If you have been accepted into any college or university and would like to be recognized in the announcements for it please reach out to any AVID student or Mr.LeClair in room 16A.

Hey super Scots, this Friday Asb will be having a kissing booth during both lunches in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Come over and get a chocolate kiss from us! Also Don't forget to wear red if you're in a relationship, pink it's complicated, and white if you're sadly single!
