Hey super scots, this Friday @ 7:30 is our first Varsity home game.  Our theme is black and white! So, remember freshman and sophomores wear black and juniors and seniors wear white. I hope to see you all this Friday and don’t forget scots have a plaidtastic day!

Club News

If you are looking for an academic activity, then Academic Decathlon is for you.  Academic Decathlon is a club/competition team.  It is designed to include students from all achievement levels and grades.  Teams generally consist of nine members, who are divided GPA’s: Honors (3.75-4.00 GPA), Scholastic (3.0-3.74 GPA), and Varsity (0.00-2.99 GPA). Academic Decathlon can help you with time management, study skills, test taking strategies, public speaking and interview skills.  It is also a great way to meet new friends and be a part of a group.  Participating on the team will give you opportunities for college scholarships, earn college credit and it looks good on college applications. You even have a chance at winning medals!  It is a lot of work and you do need to spend time studying the materials and doing assignments outside of class if you want to do well.

This year the topic is Water: A Most Essential Resource. You will learn information on the topic in each of the subject areas.

  • SCIENCE: The science topic will be an introduction to marine biology.
  • LITERATURE: The literature curriculum will include critical reading, one long work of literature, and selected shorter works. The long work of literature will be The Sea-Wolf by Jack London.
  • ART: The art curriculum will explore the impact of water on art, including subtopics such as ink wash painting, watercolor, water as a subject of art, and the use of water in architecture, sculpture, and environmental art.
  • MUSIC: The music curriculum will explore the many ways water has influenced music, from musical instruments that rely on water to compositions inspired by water.
  • SOCIAL SCIENCE: The social science topic will be the impact of water on human history.
  • ECONOMICS: The economics curriculum will cover fundamental economic concepts, microeconomics, and macroeconomics and will include a thematic section on the economics of water.
  • MATHEMATICS: The mathematics curriculum will cover permutations and combinations, algebra, and statistics.

If interested or would like more info please see Mrs. Mayo in 8A or email her at [email protected] .  Our first meeting will be in Sept.
