Highland Logo Branding our 50th Year
Announcements

Today’s historical Hispanic figure is someone close to home! César Chávez, born in Yuma Arizona in 1927, worked as a manual laborer before he spent two years in the US Navy. After moving to California and getting married, he became the national director for CSO: the Community Service Organization. César then left the CSO in 1962 and co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), which was based in Delano. Through the NFWA, Chávez organized protests and strikes, leading to better pay and safer working conditions for the farm workers. Chávez His legacy is undeniable, with his birthday being a commemorative holiday in many states, several places being named after him, and the change his efforts brought for the farm workers who provide for us all.
