Announcements:
- Scot’s Pride Alert! Siblings rep your Highland fam in the yearbook. All siblings can snap a pic together outside the library on Thursday 2/19 during lunch. Don’t miss out Scots!
- AP Students - this is the last week to pay for any AP tests that you would like to take in May if you missed the November deadline. If you paid for the $20 or $99 test in November, disregard the rest of this announcement. Tests are still available with a $40 late fee (government tests do not have the late fee - but you still need to make the February 20th deadline). If you put a down payment on your tests in November, the balance is due this Friday. Don't delay and submit your payment to the finance office before school, at lunch, or after school - there are no online payments available.
- SAT students - if you paid for your March 4thtest, you will be getting an information sheet next week, but all tests will be in the library.
Club News:
- All junior and senior boys our annual Iron Man Volleyball Game is coming up this March. It’s the battle of the classes, who’s gonna take it?… Class of 26 or 27?! If you would like to participate you can get permission slips today at lunch in front of the gym from Ms. Cerna or from room 5D or Coach Smart. Can’t wait to see you guys ball up
- Academic Decathlon competed in its final competition on February 7, with this year’s theme focused on the Roaring Twenties. Students studied subjects including art, literature, science, music, social science, and mathematics, all centered on the 1920s. In addition to written exams, students were required to write an essay, deliver a prepared speech, and participate in an interview and a Super Quiz as part of the rigorous competition. Our team, made up primarily of freshmen, earned an impressive 5th place overall. The following students received individual honors: Isacc Santoyo earned a Bronze Medal in Music and Social Science and a Silver Medal in Speech. Rudy Blas earned a Gold Medal in Interview. Marissa Herrera earned a Silver Medal in Interview. Koen Karlen earned a medal as the high-scoring student on our team. Please join us in congratulating these students for their dedication and hard work! Team Members: A Team: Marissa Herrera, Annabelle Smock, Rudy Blas B Team: Koen Karlen, Penny Horvat, Karely Parra C Team: Isacc Santoyo, Janiece Luna, Bianca Reyes
- Highland art students recently participated in the Panorama Invitational Art Show at Bakersfield College, where four of our talented students earned top honors. Keira Garcia received Best Mixed Media, Jordyn Dutto was awarded Best Sculpture, Emily Tlamasico earned Best Photography, and Joshua Ramirez Santaella received Best Digital Art. We are incredibly proud of their creativity, dedication, and outstanding achievement. Their award-winning artwork is currently on display at the Jones Gallery at Bakersfield College. The exhibition runs through March 3. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 2:00–5:00 p.m. Be sure to stop by and support our talented Highland artists!
