Did you know that most KHSD high schools serve meals to both students and children in the community during summer school? This is an option available to schools already participating in the federally funded National School Lunch Program, as authorized by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and administered in California by the Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division. It’s a program designed to encourage providing meals in low income areas and to make food available to needy children who are not attending school during the summer months. Qualifying sites (those with 50% or more of students who have qualified eligibility for the free and reduced-price meal program) may feed high school summer school participants and children from the community for free.
